Dragon Movie Review 2025: A Fun-Filled Journey of Growth (That Actually Feels Real)

dragon movie review

Dragon Movie Review – We’ve all seen movies where a heedless hero spontaneously transforms into a saint after being rebuked once. Yawn. If you’re tired of clichéd redemption arcs, Dragon, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, might just be the breath of fresh air you need. This Tamil film, starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Anupama Parameswaran, has sparked buzz for blending humor with heartfelt life lessons, without the eye-roll moments.

But does it live up to the hype? In this Dragon movie review, we OTT Ratings break down its highs, lows, and why Raghavan’s messy journey feels so relatable.

Let’s dive in!

Dragon Movie Review: A Plot That Balances Chaos and Growth

At its core, Dragon is about Raghavan (Pradeep Ranganathan), a college student who’s equal parts charming and infuriating. He avoids school, makes jokes, and gets bad grades, until his girlfriend Keerthy (Anupama Parameswaran) breaks up with him on the grounds that he is, to put it simply, a scene. What follows is not simply a game of catching her, a woman. Instead, the movie changes its focus to Raghavan’s sincere (and, at times, embarrassing) process of rebuilding his life. Critical acclaim is due to the fact that the story is also free of the preachy idiom  Times of India), a 3 Idiots and The Breakfast Club coming together, but with a Tamil twist.

Dragon Movie Review: Why Raghavan’s Flaws Make Him Unforgettable

Shot of the Dragon Movie

Let’s be real: redemption stories fail when the hero’s flaws feel cartoonish. But Raghavan’s lazy arrogance and poor choices? We’ve all met someone like him. His transformation isn’t sudden; it’s a slow burn of small wins and setbacks. One scene shows him cramming for exams while secretly doubting his worth, a moment that’ll hit home for anyone who’s faked confidence. As OTTPlay further pointed out, the script does not depict the (his) period of “disobedience” in a positive way that makes his development seem obvious rather than a plot point.

The Cast: Relatable Performances That Steal the Show

Pradeep Ranganathan nails Raghavan’s mix of immaturity and vulnerability. His comic timing shines (especially in cringe-fail pranks), but it’s the quieter scenes, like begging Keerthy for a second chance, that stick with you. Anupama Parameswaran, meanwhile, delivers depth beyond the “girlfriend” role. Watch for the breakup scene: her quiet disappointment cuts deeper than any dramatic monologue.

Direction & Writing: Meta-Jokes and Smart Tweaks to Clichés

Director Ashwath Marimuthu deserves applause for flipping script tropes. Romance isn’t the centerpiece here, it’s a catalyst. The meet-cute takes place after the breakup and meta-humor (i.e., characters poking fun at conventional “hero” tropes) maintains the freshness. That said, the climax drags a bit (Update News 360). A more acute edit could have transformed a good film into a great work.

Dragon Movie Review: Music and Visuals That Elevate the Mood

Leon James’ soundtrack isn’t just background noise. The musical “Naa Ready” is reflective of Raghavan’s disruption, but softer tunes evoke introspection. Selvakumar SK cinematographer employs vivid scenes of campus life and hushed tones in scenes of low mood as a visual representation of Raghavan’s mental process.

So, is Dragon Movie worth watching?

Absolutely. It’s a rare blend of laughs, heart, and realism. It may well challenge your patience in case of the slow climax, but the process like life is wonderfully imperfect. We OTT Ratings are giving it 5 out 4 rating for it’s storyline, performance of the cast, music and to it’s some of the few songs.
